Long popular in France, micellar water is now picking up in everyone's skincare cabinet. It looks like water, but don’t let the word water fool you as it may look like water but its viscosity and texture is nothing like it. The product is known for its ability to cleanse, and tone skin gently and at the same time keep it hydrated.
WHAT IS MICELLAR WATER?
Micellar water is a cleaning liquid with low concentrations of mild surfactants. Surfactant is a short term for SUrface ACtive agent, which removes grease and emulsify oils, to be washed off easily. It is made up of micelles - tiny molecules suspended in soft water. These micelles act like a magnet to draw out dirt, impurities and oil.
WHAT IT WON'T DO?
Micellar water contains surfactants milder than regular cleansers, so it cleanses without stripping off your skin of its natural oils. The formula is so light and gentle that there's no need to rinse it off. But at the same time, it may not be able to remove heavy makeup and dirt, so it is a good idea to go with an oil cleanser first.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Micellar water is said to be suitable for all skin types due to its mild formulation. It is especially recommended for people with dry and sensitive skin types as it is gentle and hydrating. However, If you have oily skin, you may not find it satisfying.
HOW TO USE IT?
Use a cotton ball soaked with the cleanser and wipe along your face. The micelles will pull the dirt, makeup and sebum, off the skin. It is not necessary to rinse off with water, but if you feel like washing off, then go ahead!
