Toning is the third step of skincare routine following double cleanse and occasional exfoliation.
Toners are liquid consistency water-based products that are composed of active ingredients meant to hydrate, calm and tone skin and prep it for the products that follow. Toners come with all kind of properties such as hydrating toner, pH balancing toner, clarifying toner et cetera. Toners are loaded with anti-oxidants and enhances the texture of the skin. Adding a toner is a great way to take your skin care routine to the next level. However, contrary to popular belief, toners that leave skin squeaky clean can be damaging to skin. Astringents are the strongest form of toner that can remove excess oil from skin and aggravate the skin.
If you have dry skin, a toner with hydrating ingredients that will help in nourishing the skin. Whereas if you have oily skin, toners with lightweight formula will remove excess oil without drying it out and at the same time will provide ample hydration.
What toners do?
Maintain Ph balance
pH balance is very important for the good health of the skin. After cleansing, even when you use gentle cleansing products, the pH of our skin gets a little offset. It is to restore this pH balance, it is essential to inculcate toner in your skincare routine.
Hydration is the key to good skin. Toners help in hydration and prep skin for the products that you apply afterwards. When you use toner, the other products that follow are absorbed more effectively into the skin.
Toners also help in removing impurities, dust and any last traces of makeup that can still be lingering on your skin, even cleansing and thus, it wipe away those residues from the skin and replenishes it.
How to use?
After cleansing, damp a cotton pad with toner and dab it against your skin gently.
Or, just pour out some on your palm, press your hand on your face lightly. Finish by applying treatment products and/or moisturiser.
We often neglect the neck area while we focusing on our face. Neck area also requires the same attention as a face. So don’t forget to tone and moisturise your neck as well.
